There is an opportunity for a dynamic, committed and impact driven non-profit leader to take the CVSS into a new era as it enters its 81st year of operations.

The main purpose of The Council is to serve the voluntary sector by building capacity of members and the wider community, creating sustainable alliances, facilitating mutual support and joint action.

The Council represents the concerns of the social sector, including disadvantaged and vulnerable groups, at national and international levels. In fulfilling this purpose, the CVSS seeks to engage in best practices for non-profits. As an umbrella agency, our key role is to increase the capacity of voluntary organisations to fulfil their mandates.

SCOPE OF JOB:

The Executive Director is the key management leader of the Council of Voluntary Social Services (CVSS). The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing and ensuring the financial performance, administration, programmes and achievement of strategic objectives of the organization. Other key duties include fundraising, marketing, networking and community outreach. The position reports directly to the Executive Committee (Board).

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Board Governance: Works with Executive in order to fulfill the organizations mission.
    • Responsible for leading the Council of Voluntary Social Services (CVSS) in a manner that supports and guides the organization’s mission as defined by the Executive Committee.
    • Must carry out the instructions and directives of the Executive Committee.
    • Responsible for communicating effectively with the Executive and providing, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Executive to function properly and to make informed decisions.
  • Financial Performance and Viability: Develops resources sufficient to ensure the financial health of the organization.
    • Responsible for the fiscal integrity of the Council of Voluntary Social Services (CVSS), to include submission to the Executive of a proposed annual budget and monthly financial statements, which accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization.
    • Responsible for fiscal management that anticipates operating within the approved budget, ensures maximum resource utilization, and maintenance of the organization in a positive financial position.
    • Responsible for fundraising, accessing grant funds, managing government subventions and developing other financial resources necessary to support the Council of Voluntary Social Services’ mission and operations.
  • Organization Mission and Strategy: Works with Executive and staff to ensure that the mission is fulfilled through programmes, strategic planning and community outreach.
    • Responsible for implementation of CVSS’ programmes that carry out the organization’s mission.
    • Responsible for strategic planning to ensure that the CVSS can successfully fulfill its Mission into the future.
    • Responsible for the enhancement of CVSS’ image by being active and visible in the community and by working closely with other professional, civic, public and private organizations.
  • Organization Operations: Oversees and implements allocation of resources to ensure that the operations of the organization are appropriate.
    • Responsible for the effective administration of the CVSS operations.
    • Responsible for the hiring and retention of competent, qualified staff and volunteers.
    • Responsible for signing all notes, agreements, and other instruments made and entered into and on behalf of the organization as directed and/ or approved by the Executive Committee.
    • Responsible for ensuring all liabilities are adequately covered, and health and safety requirements in place.
    • Continues process and talent improvement towards ongoing organisational and operational development.
  • Project management: Responsible for the ongoing identification, and solicitation of grant funds, to deliver key programmes.
    • Oversees all projects, and ensures adequate reporting, monitoring and management of donor funds.
    • Ensures all requirements of grant and funding agreements are met and reported on, and that proper records are maintained.
  • Oversees the Integration of technology into the operations of the organisation including cloud storage systems, mailing list management, video and web conferencing etc.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • A Master’s degree in Development, Social Sciences, Gender and Caribbean Studies, Geography or related field. Extensive and relevant experience in lieu of degree is welcomed.
  • Transparent and high integrity leadership
  • Five or more years senior nonprofit management experience
  • Solid, hands-on, budget management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision-making and reporting
  • Experience in writing grant funding proposals, with a strong track record of securing grants
  • Strong organizational abilities including planning, delegating, programme development and task facilitation
  • Ability to convey the vision of the Council of Voluntary Social Services’ strategic future to partners and stakeholders
  • In-depth knowledge of fundraising strategies and donor relations unique to nonprofit sector
  • Skills to collaborate with and motivate Executive Members and other volunteers
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to interface and engage diverse volunteer and donor groups
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee and collaborate with staff
  • Strong public speaking ability
