August 30, 2021, Kingston, Jamaica- The Council of Voluntary Social Services (CVSS) launched its #ServiceToANationJA campaign to highlight volunteerism as an integral part of nation building. This notion was made evident through the planning and implementation of The PSOJ COVID-19 Jamaica Response Fund. The fund was a joint initiative with the CVSS, The Private Sector of Jamaica, The United Way of Jamaica and American Friends of Jamaica. Through this initiative over 90,000 individuals beneficiaries received aid and packages containing personal protective equipment (PPE). This effort having impacted the society in such a profound way received recognition from the RJRGleaner Honour Awards in the category of Voluntary Service.
The #ServiceToANationJA campaign serves to highlight the realities that are made possible through voluntary acts. As well as the fact that volunteering can be done by virtually anyone within society as all is required is the drive to make a positive impact in the lives of others. This is emphasized through the varying stories shared by contributors to the fund or other volunteer activities. The CVSS encourages those who have volunteered and those who have yet to do so, to find a cause they believe in and provide #ServiceToANationJA.
