The CVSS Youth Sector comprises civil society organisatons who work with and on behalf of young children, adolescents and young adults in urban and rural contexts. The programmes and projects of the sector include a number of interventions to build the capacity of youth to:
-
- excel academically
- advocate for their rights
- develop life skills
- explore career options, including entrepreneurship
- learn from and work alongside mentors
- care for and protect the environment
- engage in sports and recreational activities
- contribute, in meaningful ways, in emergency and disaster risk reduction interventions
- avoid or reduce the likelihood of making choices that result in a lifestyle of crime and violence
The CVSS Summer Games, held at the beginning of each summer, is a flagship activity of the sector that aims to use sports to, among other aims, build participants’ self-esteem; provide opportunities for youth to compete on a near national level; and reduce inter-community tensions.
